Renegade – 2-1 (+200), Post 4. The market’s favorite and the horse most analysts expect to go off at or near even money by post time. He was a near-miss in the Kentucky Derby and exits that race with legitimate grievances about trip and positioning. Post 4 at Saratoga’s 1¼-mile configuration is a clean draw – no wide runs, no rail-scraping. He’s the horse to beat tonight.
Golden Tempo – 9-2 (+450), Post 9. Trainer Cherie DeVaux made the deliberate call to skip the Preakness Stakes and point directly to the Belmont – the same move that has paid off for freshened horses at this distance before.
