FanDuel New York Has Officially Launched!

Online sports betting has come to New York, and FanDuel Sportsbook is one of the first platforms avaialble. This review will get bettors up to speed on what to expect. It’ll be a fun start for sports bettors with the NFL playoffs, college basketball conference play, and the Australian Open taking place in the near future.

The New York State Gaming Commission received bids from top sportsbooks hoping to launch in the state. FanDuel was among the sportsbooks that bid last year. In November, it found out it was selected as one of nine sportsbooks that will be granted a temporary mobile sports betting license.

The FanDuel Sportsbook app is frankly an excellent choice for any type of sports bettor. It has a streamlined interface, plenty of excellent promos, and competitive markets and bets. New York sports bettors can also place wagers at the FanDuel Sportsbook retail location at Tioga Downs Casino Resort.

Promos

FanDuel’s sportsbook bonus is one of the industry’s best. FanDuel goes toe-to-toe with other major operators in terms of bonus and promotional offering, and it often emerges victorious. The standard welcome bonus is a $1,000 risk-free bet. Any wagers that lose is given back as site credit. This bonus money must be used within seven days or it will expire.

Alternative Promotions at Other Sportsbooks

The risk-free bet promotion puts it on a level playing field with its rival DraftKings, which offers users up to $1,000 as a deposit match bonus. FanDuel’s promo is more reasonable, however, because it only requires a bet of up to $1,000.

DraftKings’ match is only 20%, meaning a $5,000 deposit is required to take full advantage of the bonus. There are pros and cons to each type of promotion, but FanDuel’s is excellent compared to its competition. Site credit is also more flexible when placing wagers instead of dedicating an entire free bet to one specific wager.

In addition to the standard welcome bonus, FanDuel frequently offers a sports-specific bet that can really increase bankroll. For the NFL playoffs, the company is offering enhanced odds for every game! Bettors choose one side at +3000 odds. That equates to a win of $150 if a $5 bet was placed and the team they backed was victorious! This is a one-time bet for new users and is an alternative promotion to the $1,000 risk-free bet.

Beyond the opening bonus, FanDuel sportsbook extends its offering to include ongoing promotions for existing players. You’ll find parlay insurance, odds boosts, occasional free bet promotions, and much more. FanDuel also features a $50 referral bonus if you get a friend to sign up.

Ongoing Promotions For Current Users

FanDuel has offered a Same Game Parlay special each week during the NFL season. All customers have an opportunity to try a risk-free Same Game Parlay for any NFL Divisional playoff game this weekend. Up to $10 can be wagered, and if it loses, that money is returned as site credit.

In order to qualify, bettors must opt-in before placing their bet. The SGP must be at least three legs and the cumulative odds must be set at +400 or greater. There is no limit on the odds for each leg, and SGP+ wagers are eligible. Learn more about SGP+ here.

“TNT Thursdays” is in connection with the weekly NBA on TNT broadcasts. After opting in, bettors can place a three-leg Same Game Parlay on the contests TNT is showing that Thursday. If the bet is $10 or more, they will receive a $10 bonus in site credit regardless of whether the bet wins or loses. To qualify, all the legs must add up to +400 odds or higher.

“First Basket Fridays” is a potentially lucrative offer for NBA betting. Up to $25 is given based on the number of 3-pointers made in a game. $1 in bonus money is given for each 3-pointer made. To be eligible for this bonus, bettors must place a $25 bet on the first basket scorer of the contest.

Odds for the first basket scorer can range from +300 to +1500, so placing a $25 wager can really rake in the cash. However, like a first touchdown scorer in the NFL or first goal scorer in the NHL, the odds are this high for a reason. At least it’s a little easier to pick one of the 10 starters to score than two full rosters of players. Win or lose, the bonus money is still given to the bettor.

Parlay insurance has been frequently offered for the NHL and college basketball. When it is available, bettors can get back up to $25 if one of the four legs of a parlay fails in that particular sport. For the parlay to be eligible, all legs must be in the same sport, each leg must have odds set at -200 or greater (-150, +100, etc.), and the parlay must cumulatively have odds at +400 or greater.

At this time, FanDuel provides this parlay insurance offer for the NHL between January 18-23. All refunds credited to the account will expire within seven days after receiving them.

Odds

In general, FanDuel has an impressive offering when it comes to odds. FanDuel is unique in odds competition with many NFL and NBA matchups. While some odds may not be as favorable, we’ve found that most of them tend to be better than other platforms over time. Specifically, FanDuel generally offers better odds on the underdog than other sportsbooks.

Odds can frequently jump to -120 or +100 depending on how the market is betting. When spreads or totals are a few points different than other sportsbooks, ensure that there isn’t a lot of juice on one side of that offering. For the most part, standard odds on spreads and totals are at the typical -110 mark, but not as much as DraftKings.

Same Game Parlay+

A new feature that FanDuel has rolled out at the end of 2021 is an expansion of the Same Game Parlay feature. Bettors can now combine legs from different games instead of adding up multiple legs from just one contest. At least two legs are required from two games that are all designated with “SGP” to qualify as a Same Game Parlay+ wager.

For example, a bettor can take the spread and player prop in one NBA game, and combine that with the total and anytime touchdown prop of an NFL contest. Here’s an example of an eligible Same Game Parlay+ bet:

  • Cleveland Cavaliers at Boston Celtics
    • Spread Betting: Celtics -5.5 (-106)
    • Player Points: Jaylen Brown Over 21.5 (-108)
  • San Francisco 49ers at Tennessee Titans
    • Alternate Total Points: Over 41.5 (-160)
    • Anytime TD: George Kittle (+130)

That four-leg parlay would have odds of +964, meaning a $10 wager would end up paying out a total of $106.45 if it was successful. Same Game Parlay+ will be very useful for parlay bettors when there are only a few games to bet on at one time.

Overall, FanDuel offers great odds, especially if you like to bet the underdog. Either way, FanDuel is a great place to start your search for the best odds on any match-up.

Depth

There are a few reasons for the ever-so-slight knock in this category, and one has nothing to do with FanDuel itself. Instead, the small markdown is thanks to state and local laws.

FanDuel offers a huge range of professional and college sports on its sportsbook. This includes various international sports like soccer, rugby, and cricket. Simply put, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a sport you can’t bet on at FanDuel.

When compared to a sportsbook like BetMGM, there aren’t as many alternate spreads or props offered. For example, spotlight matchups in college sports will have a few alternative spreads. BetMGM and DraftKings frequently offer a long list of customizable spreads or totals to choose from.

The layout of choosing props is also not as convenient. Bettors have to go into each game and scroll through a long list of options. NFL and NBA contests generally have a wealth of bets to choose from, but a lot of other sports can lack in this category on FanDuel.

As sports betting continues weaving its way into the mainstream, FanDuel will undoubtedly begin to offer more sports and markets.

Cashout

FanDuel has a wide variety of payment methods available to its users. Depositing is quick and simple at the FanDuel sportsbook. Here’s a rundown of available deposit options:

  • Online Banking
  • Debit/Credit Card (VISA and MasterCard)
  • PayPal
  • Wire Transfer
  • PayNearMe
  • Play+ Card
  • FanDuel Gift Card

This is a pretty standard slate of deposit methods. The only things missing are American Express, Discover, and ACH echeck which some competing sportsbooks accept. These missing options are the only reason for the score of 4.7 instead of a perfect 5.

Withdrawal options are slightly more limited than deposit options, but that’s normal for a sportsbook. Here are FanDuel’s withdrawal methods:

  • PayPal
  • Online Banking
  • Check by Mail
  • Cash at Casino Counter

App

FanDuel is one of our favorite sports betting apps. FanDuel’s mobile app is streamlined, easy to navigate, fast, and intuitive. Over a few months of use, we have never encountered a single issue or problem. Competing sportsbooks such as PointsBet, DraftKings, and BetMGM come close to being this good, but small nitpicks hold them back.

FanDuel’s app loads fast and make it incredibly easy to sort through bets. You can find any sport in a matter of seconds and pursue all available markets for a specific event or match-up. Perhaps one thing that would make it better is more layout options. It would be nice to scroll through player props for all games on one screen instead of going into each game to view them.

4.8
Overall

All things considered, FanDuel is one of the very best sportsbooks available to New York bettors. The website and app are extremely quick to use and the odds are very competitive. The use of bonus money instead of limited free bets is a huge plus. Add the Tioga Downs retail sportsbook into the mix, and you’ve got a top-notch sportsbook from start to finish. FanDuel earns its place as a top New York sportsbook thanks to an excellent app, market depth, and promotional offers.

FanDuel Casino Online App

If you’re looking for an online casino, FanDuel has an online casino in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. For now, there isn’t an option available in New York.

In Pennsylvania, FanDuel is partnered with Valley Forge Casino Resort. It also operates its PA sportsbook as part of this team-up.

FanDuel operates as Betfair Casino in New Jersey through its partnership with Golden Nugget Atlantic City. The online casino launched in 2013.

FanDuel’s online casino is one of the best you can find because it has the backing of Flutter Entertainment. Flutter is the combination of Paddy Power and Betfair, two massive online casino brands in the European market. The company has a strong industry reputation and is known for providing excellent online casino options to players.

Is FanDuel New York Legit?

Simply put, yes. FanDuel is a legitimate and legal sportsbook. There are many reasons proving this point, and here are a few that showcase FanDuel’s legitimacy.

FanDuel has the proper licensing to operate in the states where it is live, including New York. A temporary license has been given by the New York State Gaming Commission. FanDuel already has a retail partner at the Tioga Downs Casino and Resort in Nichols.

Because FanDuel is already operational through a land-based partner and would be overseen by a state-licensed governing body when it launches in New York, it is far and away preferable for New York bettors compared to illegal betting sites that are operated outside of the country. Those sites are not subject to the same laws and, thus, have less reason to be fair in case there is a dispute over winnings.

Here’s an excellent story that should help convince you your money is safe with FanDuel. In 2018, a glitch on FanDuel’s platform resulted in one bettor winning $82,000. At first, FanDuel disputed the payment. Later on, however, the company agreed to pay the winnings to the player.

FanDuel issued this quote to USA Today at the time: “Above all else, sports betting is supposed to be fun. As a result of a pricing error this weekend, it wasn’t for some of our customers.” It’s appreciated that FanDuel changed their position, and it’s lesson for all sportsbook operators to honor wagers even if a glitch occurs.
