A World Cup sports bettor has won $4million after Sweden held Japan to a 1-1 draw on June 25.
World Cup Sports Bettor Wins $4M Polymarket Wager As Sweden Hold Japan To A Draw
Sweden and Japan played out a 1-1 stalemate in their final group stage encounter, thanks to goals from Daizen Maeda and Anthony Elanga.
The stakes were further by one enthusiastic sports bettor, as the anonymous individual placed $2.3m on Japan to not win the match.
This bet continued a trend of monstrous amounts of money being placed during the 2026 World Cup – which has not been too successful so far.
An anonymous trader using the username “leeeroyjenkins” put down $8.6 million in capital on a single match, backing heavily favored Belgium to defeat Egypt.
The bet would have returned a gross payout of roughly $13.1m. However, Egypt managed to pull off a dramatic 1-1 draw, rendering the millions of “Yes” contracts worthless and dealing the user a staggering multi-million dollar loss.
This shattered previous sports trading records on the platform, outpacing another prominent whale trader named “FlickRaw,” who lost $2.7m on a Netherlands vs. Japan draw and another $1.5m on that same Belgium vs. Egypt match in less than 24 hours.
Whoever placed the $2.3m on found more success as they claimed a staggering $4m.

Sweden Polymarket Bet Would Not Be The Biggest Polymarket Win
Although winning $4m sounds like a monumental moment for any wager, this did not even scratch the surface of the biggest win in Polymarket history.
The single largest amount ever won from a bet on Polymarket belongs to an anonymous French trader who netted a staggering $85 million in profit.
Operating across four separate highly coordinated accounts (including the infamous username “Théo”), the experienced financial trader heavily backed Donald Trump to win the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election.
