The National Baseball Hall of Fame announced two members for the 2026 class.
Beltrán appeared on 84.2 percent of Baseball Writers’ Association of America ballots, while Jones was on 78.4%. The threshold for induction is 75%.
Beltrán and Jones will be inducted with Jeff Kent, who was elected via the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee.
Beltrán gets in on his fourth year on the ballot.
“There’s no doubt that today my life has really changed,” said Beltrán in a statement. “Just to be named to the Hall of Fame, what this means to me, to Puerto Rico, to our family, to our projects in Puerto Rico promoting baseball, the Carlos Beltrán Baseball Academy. … Today I can say I’m a Hall of Famer. I’m excited about that.”
Beltrán played for seven teams: Kansas City Royals (1998-2004), Houston Astros (2004 & 2016), New York Mets (2005-2011), San Francisco Giants (2011), St. Louis Cardinals (2012-2013), New York Yankees (2014-2016), and Texas Rangers (2016).
Beltrán’s accomplishments include nine All-Star appearances, three Gold Gloves, two Silver Sluggers, and Rookie of the Year.
Beltrán, who is best known for playing center field, is a career .279 hitter with 435 home runs, 1587 RBI, 2,725 hits, and 312 stolen bases.
Beltrán won a World Series with the Houston Astros in 2017. However, the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal damaged that team’s reputation. Beltrán was set to become the Mets’ manager before the scandal ruined his chances.
The MLB suspended Beltrán for his involvement in the scandal.
Will Carlos Beltrán Enter the Hall as a Met?
Every player gets to choose the team on their Hall of Fame statue. For a player like Derek Jeter, the New York Yankees were the only option.
On the other hand, Beltrán played for multiple teams. However, the former outfielder has an idea of which team will be on his Hall of Fame plaque.
, Beltrán suggested that the Mets are the team that best represents his time in the MLB.
“I look at my career and the teams that I had the best years in, or the most time, have been the Royals and the Mets,” Beltrán said. “But I do feel like with the [way] that I feel about the Mets now, and how engaged I am with organization, and how useful they made me as part of the organization, I see myself as a Met.”
