Early Offense Clinches Series Win for Flock

(Lancaster, Pa., Aug. 11, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 6-5 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Long Island erupted for four runs in the first inning off Barnstormers starter Jared Lakind. RBI singles by Lew Ford and Daniel Fields, along with a two-run single from Ramon Cabrera, highlighted the inning. L.J. Mazzilli added an RBI single to left field in the second, increasing the lead to 5-0.

Lancaster clawed back to within 5-3 with single runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings off Ducks starter Brandon Beachy. Andrew Aplin’s RBI double, a sacrifice fly to right from Parker Morin and a solo home run to right by Joe Terdoslavich did the damage.

The Ducks grabbed an insurance run in the eighth inning on a bases loaded walk by Mazzilli, increasing their advantage to 6-3. Aplin connected for a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the ninth, closing the gap to 6-5. However, Pedro Beato got Caleb Gindl to ground out to second base, ending the game.

Beachy (1-0) earned the win, tossing five and one-third innings of three-run ball, allowing seven hits and two walks while striking out four. Lakind (5-5) took the loss, surrendering five runs on 10 hits and two walks over five innings with five strikeouts. Beato collected his second save of the season despite allowing two runs on two hits and a walk in the ninth.

Every Ducks batter picked up a hit in the game. D’Arby Myers led the Flock with three hits, while Deibinson Romero added two hits and walked twice. Cody Mincey tossed two and two-thirds scoreless innings of relief, yielding one hit while striking out four.
