(Sugar Land, Texas, July 14, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters 3-2 in 10 innings on Sunday night in the third game of a six-game series at Constellation Field.
The Skeeters took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Blair Beck’s RBI single to right field off Duck starter Pedro Beato. A two-out solo home run to left field by Juan Silverio in the fifth increased the Sugar Land lead to two.
It stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth when the Ducks rallied with two outs to tie the game at two. A two-strike RBI single to left by L.J. Mazzilli and a pinch-hit single to left-center by Daniel Fields, in which Mazzilli scored on a fielding error, highlighted the inning.
In the bottom of the 10th, Javier Betancourt sacrificed Albert Cordero to third base to begin the inning. Following an intentional walk, Silverio won the game with an RBI single to left.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Skeeters starter Carlos Pimentel tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out two batters. Beato gave up two runs on five hits and three walks over six innings with five strikeouts. Daniel Gibson (2-1) picked up the win after pitching a scoreless top of the 10th inning. Michael Tonkin (2-1) suffered the loss, conceding an unearned run on one hit and two walks in one and one-third innings.
Ezequiel Carrera led the Flock offensively with three hits, including a triple. Mazzilli added two hits, an RBI and a run. The Ducks and Skeeters continue their six-game set on Monday night. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. EDT (7:05 p.m. CDT) at Constellation Field. Fans can follow all the action on the Long Island Ducks Broadcast Network.
