Ducks Silence Bees to Finish Off Series Victory

(New Britain, Conn., June 6, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks shut out the New Britain Bees 7-0 on Thursday night in the finale of a four-game series at New Britain Stadium.

Long Island took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Kirk Nieuwenhuis scored on an error and Daniel Fields dunked an RBI single into left field. A sacrifice fly to right by L.J. Mazzilli in the third increased the advantage to three.

It stayed that way until the sixth with the Ducks doubled their lead to 6-0 thanks to four consecutive two-out hits. A two-run home run to right by David Washington and an RBI double to right by Rando Moreno did the damage. Matt den Dekker’s sac fly to center in the seventh rounded out the scoring.

Ducks starter Sean Nolin (6-0) earned the win, firing six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out seven. Bees starter Kyle Simon (0-3) took the loss, yielding six runs on seven hits in five and two-thirds innings with three strikeouts. Alex Katz tossed two scoreless innings of relief for the Ducks, while Tanner Scheppers added a scoreless ninth.

Nieuwenhuis led the Flock offensively with three hits and two runs scored, while Washington added two RBIs and two runs.
