There’s parity and then there is more parity and then there is the enigma known as Ivy League basketball.
Most preseason scribes thought that Penn,Harvard and Yale would fight it out for the title, with Princeton and Brown in a tussle for that last Ivy tourney bid. How wrong they now seem to be, with Princeton already sweeping Penn and Harvard, although injured absorbing a major upset. The power rankings, as of today look like this:
Yale, 10-3- The Elis, with Miye Oni, Jordan Bruner and Paul Atkinson all healthy are the team to beat.
Princeton- 9-5- 2 wins over Penn and a stunning win at Arizona State are big surprises.
Penn, 10-6- Still loads of talent and an upset over Villanova.
Brown, 11-4- Desmond Cambridge is a stud.
Harvard, 6-7- Karl Towns and Bryce Aiken are injured. As they recover, so will the season.
Dartmouth, 10-7-Huge surprise team with an upset win over Harvard.
Cornell, 8-8- Brian Earl is doing a great rebuilding job in Ithaca.
Columbia, 5-9- They lost Mike Smith, but did take Rutgers into overtime on the road and can surprise.
