(New Britain, Conn., Aug. 17, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the New Britain Bees 7-5 on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at New Britain Stadium.

After three scoreless innings on each side, the Ducks struck first with four runs in the fourth inning off of Bees starter Kyle Simon. An RBI single by David Washington, a two-run double by Ramon Cabrera, and a solo home run by Miles Williams did the damage.
Long Island added to their lead in the next inning when Daniel Fields and Lew Ford hit two-out doubles to extend the lead to 5-0. New Britain answered quickly in the bottom half of the frame with five runs of their own. Jamar Walton started the comeback with a two-run home run off Ducks starter Chris Pike. Vinny Siena followed with an RBI double, then a Deibinson Romero sacrifice fly brought the Bees within one. Jason Rogers tied the game at five with a two-out single.
The Bees took the lead in the sixth after an RBI double by Jonathan Galvez and an RBI single from Darren Ford. The Ducks were unable to cut into the lead from that point on.
Simon (8-6) picked up the win, lasting seven innings despite allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out eight. Dennis O’Grady (5-3) took the loss, conceding two runs in the sixth inning. Evan Scribner earned his 20th save with a scoreless ninth inning, striking out two.
Fields and Ford both paced the Flock with two-hit games, tallying three doubles combined.
The Ducks continue their three-game series against the New Britain Bees Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. from New Britain Stadium. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders).
