(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 12, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 6-5 in walk-off fashion on Sunday evening in the finale of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
The Revolution opened the scoring in the first inning on Telvin Nash’s RBI double and Welington Dotel’s run-scoring groundout off Ducks starter Hector Silvestre. Long Island closed to within one in the third on Taylor Ard’s RBI infield single off Revs starter Logan Williamson.
It stayed that way until the fifth when York jumped in front 5-1 on Melky Mesa’s RBI double, a run-scoring throwing error and an RBI single by Nash. The Ducks trimmed their deficit to one with three runs in the seventh inning. Daniel Fields’ two-run single to right and a run-scoring fielder’s choice off the bat of Lew Ford closed the gap to 5-4.
Long Island tied the game at five in the eighth on a single, two walks and a sacrifice fly to left field from David Washington. The Ducks then won the game in the ninth when Fields walked, Ford singled and Ard drove in Fields with a single to right.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Silvestre lasted four and one-third innings, giving up five runs on seven hits and three walks with one strikeout. Williamson pitched six innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and four walks while striking out three. Logan Ondrusek (1-1) picked up the win after tossing a scoreless ninth inning, stranding the go-ahead run at third base. Junior Rincon (1-4) suffered the loss, conceding the winning run on two hits and a walk without recording an out.
Miles Williams led the Flock offensively with three hits. Fields and Ard each added two hits and two RBIs.
