(Lancaster, Penn., July 26, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 11-6 on Thursday night in game two of a single-admission doubleheader at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Lancaster took the opener, 5-0.
The Ducks opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when Jordany Valdespin drove in Ramon Cabrera with an RBI up the middle following a two-out error by Jimmy Paredes. The Barnstormers jumped ahead in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs. A Blake Gailen home run, an RBI single from Carlos Garcia, and a two-run double by Darian Sandford did the damage.
Taylor Ard’s RBI double in the third inning helped cut the deficit to two. But the Barnstormers were able to extend their lead back to three in the bottom half of the frame when Ryan Casteel hit a solo home run to make it a 5-2 game.
The Ducks exploded in the fourth inning thanks to a two-run double by Valdespin and a three-run home run by Lew Ford to give Long Island a 7-5 lead. Eleven Ducks stepped up to the plate in the frame. The Flock batted around in the next inning as well, with RBI singles from Travis Snider, Ard and Cabrera along with a sacrifice fly by David Washington pushing the lead to 11-5. The score remained the same until the bottom of the seventh, when Vladimir Frias was able to drive in a run off of the debuting Logan Ondrusek.
Tyler Badamo (4-6) earned the win for the Ducks, allowing five runs in as many innings on six hits and two walks, striking out two. Joe Gardner (3-7) took the loss, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and four walks, striking out two over three and one-third innings.
Valdespin, Ard, and Washington all had three-hit games to pace the Flock. Daniel Fields, Ford, Cabrera, and Emilio Bonifacio also tallied multi-hit games.
The Ducks head south to take on the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Regency Furniture Stadium.
