(Lancaster, Penn., July 25, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 3-1 on Wednesday evening in a rain-shortened game at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Long Island opened the scoring in the second inning when David Washington drilled a solo shot over the center-field wall. Lancaster answered in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI single by Blake Gailen off the glove of Washington to tie the game at one.
Lew Ford pushed the lead to 2-1 with an opposite-field homer in the top of the fourth inning. The score remained the same until the top of the seventh inning, when Taylor Ard hit a solo home run to left field. The game was called due to inclement weather following the top half of the seventh inning.
John Brownell (6-8) earned the win with a complete game six-inning performance for the Ducks, yielding one run on six hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Jonathan Albaladejo (6-5) took the loss, surrendering three runs on seven hits, striking out six over six and one-third innings.
Game two of tonight’s doubleheader was postponed due to inclement weather. It will be made up on a later date that has yet to be determined.
The Ducks continue their series against the Lancaster Barnstormers with a single-admission doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Clipper Magazine Stadium, with the second game starting approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first. Left-hander Jake Fisher (4-4, 3.95) gets the start for the Ducks in game one against Barnstormers lefty John Anderson (0-2, 3.72). Righty Tyler Badamo (3-6, 4.03) takes the mound for the Flock in game two against Lancaster right-hander Joe Gardner (3-6, 4.71).
Game two of tonight’s scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to inclement weather. It will be made up at a later date that has yet to be determined. Long Island returns home on Monday, July 30 to open a three-game series against the Somerset Patriots. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders).
