Parry and Puckett Secure Sweep for Ducks

Central Islip, N.Y., July 8, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters 5-3 on Sunday evening in the finale of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Neither side dented home plate until the bottom of the fifth inning. Cody Puckett’s leadoff solo home run to left field and Jordany Valdespin’s two-out RBI single to right off Skeeters starter Ben Griset put the Ducks on top 2-0.

It remained that way until the bottom of the eighth when Puckett’s two-out, three-run double to left-center increased Long Island’s lead to five. Sugar Land rallied for three runs in the ninth on Javier Betancourt’s RBI double, a sacrifice fly from Alvaro Rondon and a wild pitch that scored Betancourt. However, Francisco Rodriguez induced a flyout from Derek Norris and struck out Matt Chavez to end the ballgame.

Ducks starter Bennett Parry (6-1) was magnificent to earn the win, tossing seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits and four walks while striking out 10 batters. Griset (2-3) took the hard-luck loss, yielding two runs on six hits and a walk over seven innings with three strikeouts.

Puckett’s two-hit, four-RBI performance led the Flock in the series finale. Lew Ford and Audie Afenir chipped in with two hits as well.
