Surfers and people from the surfing community around the world are expected to come pay their final respects to Charlie Bunger.
The life of the two-time Surfing Hall-of-Famer will be celebrated and honored at the Boyd Spencer Funeral Home in Babylon, New York.
The pioneer of surfboard makers passed away Monday July 2nd at Good Samarian Hospital. Charlie was 77 years-old and for a man of his stature was truly one of the most humble men that I have ever met. Every chance I got I would love to embarrass and yet honor him by introducing him to people as Surfing Hall-of-Famer Charlie Bunger. I remember another time saying to people that for me the great hall of famers were Ruth, Gehrig, Dimaggio, Mantle and Bunger. Even though he would tell me to stop it, I knew that he dug it. I can honestly say that I meant it because he was every bit as much a hall of Famer as they were, in some cases more!
The impact that this man had on his family and friends and people that he didn’t even know are things that legends are made of. I would know, I have known one or two in my life.
You can come and appreciate the life of a great man on Monday July 9th from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm.
