Missed Opportunities Haunt Ducks in Loss

(Lancaster, Pa., June 23, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 3-1 on Saturday night in the third game of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The Ducks scored first in the top of the second inning when Emilio Bonifacio drove in Dan Lyons with a base hit. The Barnstormers were able to match in the bottom half of the inning when Vladimir Frias brought home a run with a double to left field.

The score remained the same until the eighth inning when Trayvon Robinson broke the tie with a two-out base hit up the middle. Nate Coronado followed with a triple in the next at-bat to drive in Lancaster’s third run. The Ducks were unable to tie the ballgame late, leaving the tying run at first in the top of the ninth inning.

Scott Shuman (2-0) earned the win in relief, striking out the side in the eighth inning. Jake Fisher (3-2) suffered the loss, yielding three runs on eight hits and a walk over seven and two-thirds innings with eight strikeouts. Matt Reynolds earned his 13th save of the season stranding two runners on base in the ninth inning.

Jordany Valdespin paced the Flock with four hits in the ballgame, reaching base safely in all five plate appearances.

The Ducks and Barnstormers cap off their four-game set on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders).
