Ducks Bitten Late by Skeeters Offense

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 19, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters 7-2 on Tuesday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

The Ducks took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Lew Ford’s two-out RBI double to right field off Skeeters starter Dallas Beeler. Sugar Land answered back with two-out RBI singles by Alvaro Rondon and Anthony Giansanti in the second to take a 2-1 lead.

It stayed that way until the sixth when back-to-back solo home runs by Kyle Kubitza and Courtney Hawkins off Ducks starter Jair Jurrjens increased the Skeeters lead to 4-1. Long Island closed to within two in the bottom of the inning on David Washington’s RBI single. However, three Skeeters runs in the seventh on RBI singles by Dennis Phipps, Kubitza and Hawkins ballooned their advantage to 7-2.

Beeler (4-1) earned the win, tossing five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out five. Jurrjens (3-3) suffered the loss, conceding four runs on nine hits and two walks in six innings with five strikeouts. Lee Sosa tossed two and two-thirds scoreless inning of relief for the Ducks.

Ford led the Flock with two hits and a run batted in.
