(Central Islip, N.Y., June 6, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 6-5 on Wednesday night in the finale of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
The Barnstormers took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on Carlos Garcia’s RBI double and Nate Coronado’s two-run single off Ducks starter Jake Fisher. Long Island responded with four runs in the third off Barnstormers starter Brooks Hall to take a 4-3 lead. RBI singles by Jordany Valdespin and Emilio Bonifacio, along with a two-run single by Lew Ford, did the damage.
It stayed that way until Lancaster scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to jump in front 5-4. An RBI single by Vladimir Frias and a run-scoring fielder’s choice off the bat of Joey Terdoslavich accounted for the scoring. However, RBI singles by Travis Snider and pinch-hitter Taylor Ard in the bottom of the seventh gave the Ducks the lead for good at 6-5.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Fisher pitched six and one-third innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits and two walks while striking out four. Hall lasted six innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. Dennis O’Grady (1-1) earned the win with one and two-thirds scoreless innings of relief, and Kevin Munson (1-1) took the loss, conceding two runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning. Wander Perez collected his first save of the year with a perfect ninth inning.
Valdespin, Bonifacio, Snider and Ford each had two hits to lead the Ducks offense.
