Ducks Drop Series Finale in Sugar Land

(Sugar Land, Texas, May 31, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters 1-0 on Thursday night in the finale of a three-game series at Constellation Field.

Neither side dented home plate until the bottom of the sixth inning. Matt Chavez’s two-out RBI single up the middle scored Derek Norris for the lone run of the ballgame.

Skeeters starter Casey Coleman did not factor into the decision but pitched four scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks with three strikeouts. James Russell (1-0) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief, yielding two hits while striking out two. Ducks starter Jake Fisher (2-1) took the hard-luck loss, conceding just one run on six hits and two walks over six innings while striking out seven. Felipe Paulino collected his ninth save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

The Ducks return home on Friday to begin a three-game series with the New Britain Bees. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Ducks Black Duffel Bags, courtesy of Fairfield Properties. It’s also a Bowlero Friday! As fans exit the ballpark following the game, Ducks staff members will be handing out coupons for a special “buy one game of bowling, get one free” offer, courtesy of Bowlero. A Bees player will be designated as the K-Man for the game, and if he strikes out, all fans in a lucky section of the ballpark will win a “buy one entree, get one half off” discount, courtesy of Red Robin. Right-hander John Brownell (2-3, 4.55) gets the start for the Ducks against Bees righty Kyle Simon (2-2, 3.30).
