LIBERTY CORNER, N.J. (May 25, 2018) – In preparation for the 118th U.S. Open Championship at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y., the USGA, in conjunction with the Town of Southampton Police Department and other local and state agencies, unveiled a comprehensive transportation plan. The championship will be contested June 11-17.
The transportation system will use satellite parking lots and more than 200 shuttle buses to help ensure that fans experience stress-free travel to and from Shinnecock. Local traffic representatives from the Southampton and Suffolk County police and sheriffs’ departments, the Suffolk County Department of Public Works, the New York State Police and New York State Department of Transportation have been involved in the 18-month planning process with the USGA.
All fans traveling by car during U.S. Open week should follow event trailblazing signage to Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach, N.Y., where complimentary parking and shuttle transportation will be provided to and from Shinnecock. Shuttles will run continuously beginning at 5:30 a.m. EDT each day and continue for one hour following the conclusion of play. One-way shuttle times are expected to take approximately 35 minutes, depending upon traffic.

In partnership with the MTA Long Island Rail Road, an expanded service along the Montauk branch will be available to the championship. LIRR trains will utilize a temporary station constructed specifically for LIRR customers on the south side of County Road 39. Access to the championship will be via a pedestrian bridge over CR 39. There is no general or disabled fan parking in the immediate vicinity of Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. All other parking is by permit only. Parking restrictions surrounding the championship grounds and within the town of Southampton will be closely monitored and enforced. Handicapped-accessible parking spaces will be available at all championship parking areas for vehicles displaying appropriate HP/DP license plates or placards. Individuals requiring lift-equipped transportation are encouraged to contact the Admissions Office at 800-698-0661 for more information.
Fans and local residents wishing to utilize ride-share options to be dropped off at the championship should utilize the Passenger Drop-Off area located at Stony Brook Southampton.
There is no parking or staging for vehicles, so please coordinate pick-up times accordingly. Only 12-passenger and smaller vehicles will be permitted to utilize the drop-off. From the drop-off, fans will have a 5 to 10-minute walk to access Gate 2. Fans choosing to ride a bicycle to the championship are instructed to follow directions and signage to the Passenger Drop-Off location. Bike racks will be provided to secure bikes at this location. Owners are responsible for the security of their bicycles.
For the week of Monday, June 11 through Sunday, June 17, local residents and through traffic are encouraged to adjust travel around peak arrival and departure times (6-11 a.m. and 3:30-7:30 p.m.) in the vicinity of Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. Shuttle traffic is expected to be heavy along the primary routes in and around Shinnecock Hills during these times.
In support of the championship and public safety, road closures will take place beginning on Tuesday, May 29. Tuckahoe Road will be closed to all through traffic from CR 39 to Terrace Drive. Tuckahoe Road is scheduled to re-open on Friday, June 22. Beginning on Thursday, June 7, Tuckahoe Road will be closed from CR 39 to Parrish Pond Court and will remain closed until Tuesday, June 19. These closures will be for all vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
