Fisher Dominates but Ducks Drop Pitcher’s Duel in Somerset

Somerset Patriots

(Bridgewater, N.J., May 18, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Somerset Patriots 1-0 on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at TD Bank Ballpark.

Jake Fisher was superb on the mound once again for the Ducks. The left-hand tossed eight scoreless innings for a second consecutive start, yielding just four hits and no walks while striking out four. He threw 99 pitches on the night, 70 of which were strikes, and now has thrown 16 straight shutout innings. Patriots starter Kyle Davies did not factor into the decision but pitched three scoreless and hitless innings, allowing one walk while striking out one.

Neither side was able to manufacture any offense until the bottom of the ninth inning. Following back-to-back walks by Adam Weisenburger and Julio Borbon, a sac bunt by Endy Chavez and an intentional walk to Justin Trapp, Aaron Dudley hit a fly ball to left that was misplayed. The sac fly/error allowed pinch-runner Justin Pacchioli to score the winning run.

Ryan Kelly (1-0) collected the win after pitching a perfect ninth inning, striking out two. Ashur Tolliver (0-1) suffered the loss, yielding the winning run on three walks in one-third of an inning.

Lew Ford led the Flock offensively with two hits.

The Ducks and Patriots continue their three-game set on Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at TD Bank Ballpark. Fans can follow all the action on the Long Island Ducks Broadcast Network. Live streaming HD video and audio will be available via BoxCast on the Ducks official Facebook page, YouTube channel and at LIDucks.com. Right-hander John Brownell (1-2, 6.13) takes the mound for the Ducks against Patriots righty Cory Riordan (1-0, 3.56).
