Boulders Slug Their Way to 8-2 Rubber Game Victory

Rockland entered tonight’s contest with Quebec 1.5 games back of them for the Can-Am League lead. They would narrow it to .5 thanks to convincing a 8-2 win.

The Capitales took control early with two runs in the first. Yurisbel Gracial put a ball in the gap to score Philippe Craig-St-Louis while Jordan Lennerton produced a groundout that brought in Gracial.

The Boulders responded to the early deficit in a big way with eight unanswered runs. Red hot Joe Maloney made it 2-1 in the bottom half on another solo shot. In the third, Daniel Arribas even things up with one of his own.

Rockland poured on three runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth. Jared McDonald doubled home Cody Regis and Arribas followed that up with his second home run of the game.  Marcus Nidiffer scored Dylan Tice on a single and Mike Montville roped a ball into left to bring in Nidiffer and Regis.

The hit parade ended Quebec starter Arik Sikula’s night fairly early.. He concluded with five innings, nine hits, eight earned runs, six strikeouts and one walk. Markus Solbach on the other hand went seven strong. He finished with four hits, two earned runs, five strikeouts and one walk.

C.J. Riefenhauser and Tommy Lawrence provided scoreless relief for the Boulders. Will Dennis and Andrew Elliott did the same for the Capitales.

Rockland will get back to work Tuesday when they take on the Jackals in New Jersey. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Yogi Berra Stadium.
