Strong Pitching Leads to Rockland Victor Over Miners

David Fischer (2-0) earned a win in his first start of the season by pitching five innings and giving up just one earned run. The bullpen continued the success by pitching four scoreless innings. Meanwhile, Kenny Roder (3-4) was hit for five runs in his 5.2 innings of work.

After two scoreless innings, both offenses came alive in the third inning. The Miners struck first starting with a walk by Brian Mayer and single by Carlos Lopez. A passed ball moved the runners up a base and Jay Baum singled to drive in the first run. Rubi Silva’s sac fly for the next at-bat gave Sussex County the 2-0 lead.

The Boulders responded with some runs in the third as well. Daniel Arribas led off with a double and Mike Fransoso walked to get the first two runners on base. An RBI single from Dylan Tice got the Boulders on the board. Joe Maloney would then reach on a fielder’s choice and Marcus Nidiffer tripled to put the Boulders on top.

In the fifth, Rockland’s Aaron Wilson singled to lead off and made it all the way to third on an E8. Tice singled again to give his team a 4-2 lead. Nidiffer followed up the one-run fifth inning with a solo home run in the sixth adding to Sussex County’s deficit.

The Boulders sealed the game with four more runs in the eighth inning off of former Rockland reliever Hector Nelo to give them the 9-2 win. The final game of the series will be at Palisades Credit Union park again at 7 pm.
