Rockland entered today’s clash with the Aigles two games back of Quebec in the Can-Am League. It would remain that way after their 5-2 victory and the Capitales’ 15-0 thrashing of Ottawa.
The Boulders jumped out to yet another first-inning lead. Jared McDonald drove in Dylan Tice and Joe Maloney on a double. Tice reached on a walk and Maloney hit a single.
They would put their foot on the gas again in the third with three runs to make it 5-0. Daniel Arribas brought in Maloney on a single, Mikael Mogues drove home Marcus Nidiffer on one of his own and Arribas scored on a passed ball.
The inning would end Aigles’ starter Kurt Heyer’s outing. He concluded with four hits, five earned runs, two strikeouts and five walks. Owen Boon, Ryan Leach, Shaun Ellis, Angel Rincon and Kevin McNorton handled relief duties for the remainder of the contest for Trois-Rivieres.
Rockland’s Richard Salazar gave up his first run in the bottom of the third on a Javier Herrera double to score David Glaude. He gave up another in the sixth on a walk to Connor Crane with the bases loaded.
He would finish the inning to end with eight hits, two earned runs, seven strikeouts and one walk. Tommy Lawrence took the hill in the seventh before the Boulders welcomed back Mayckol Guaipe in the eighth. Jon Velasquez picked up his 11th save of the year in the ninth.
