(Bridgeport, Conn., July 29, 2017) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 11-1 Saturday night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard in the middle game of a three-game series.
Long Island (10-11; 46-45) struck for three runs in the top of the first inning against Bridgeport starter Mike Aquilino. Jordan Pacheco opened the scoring with an RBI double and came around to score on a two-run homer from Angelo Songco. The blast was Songco’s 19th of the season.
The Bluefish (12-10; 53-49) answered back with a run in the bottom of the first against Ducks righty John Brownell, with D’Arby Myers stealing third and coming home on an errant throw. That was the only blemish against Brownell (8-2) in his five innings of work, in which he yielded one run on five hits, striking out five and not issuing a walk.
In the top of the second, Pacheco extended the Ducks lead to 6-1 with a bases-loaded, three-run double to right center off Aquilino (0-1). The Bridgeport righty threw 114 pitches in 3.2 innings, allowing 10 runs (seven earned) on nine hits, walking five and striking out one.
Marc Krauss extended his hitting streak to 14 games with an RBI double in the fourth, and Songco added a third RBI with a ninth-inning single off Angel Rosa, which extended the Ducks lead to 11-1.
Alfredo Simon allowed just two hits in the game’s final four innings, striking out three to close out the win. By virtue of throwing four frames, Simon was credited with his first save of the season, and has now allowed just one earned run in 10 innings out of the bullpen.
Every batter in the Ducks lineup reached base, with eight of nine batters reaching safely multiple times. Six Long Island batters had multi-hit games, with Pacheco leading the way going 4-for-6 with two doubles and four RBIs.
