Montville Walks Off Again to Give Boulders 9-8 Win

The Rockland Boulders and Trois-Rivieres Aigles hit home runs throughout the game, but it was a single that was the hit of the game.

Cody Regis started the scoring with a two-run home run in the first inning to score himself and Dylan Tice. Daniel Arribas tacked on another run with a single to drive in Marcus Nidiffer giving the Boulders an early 3-0 lead.

Trois-Rivieres got their first run via a sac fly by Kyle Lafrenz to score Connor Crane.. Daniel Mateo gave the Aigles the lead in the third inning with a three-run shot. The Boulders tied the game up in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single by Jared McDonald to score Joe Maloney.

Alexander Ayala and Brenden Webb each hit a home run in the sixth to retake the lead for the Aigles at 7-4. However, Rockland responded in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single by Tice and a three-run blast by Joe Maloney to give them an 8-7 advantage.

Mateo evened the score again in the ninth with a solo shot over the right field short porch off of closer Jon Velasquez. Rockland remained resilient starting with a two-out single by McDonald. A wild pitch allowed J-Mac to move to second and Mike Montville laced a single to left field to drive in the walk-off run.

The win snapped Rockland’s three-game losing streak and improved the team to 39-21. Bo Budkevics pitched six innings and gave up seven runs for Rockland. Jean-Francois Dionne was the starter for the Aigles and only lasted four innings after surrendering four runs.

Jon Velasquez (2-0) earned the win while Angel Rincon (3-1) took the loss.

The middle game of the series will be tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.
