Coming off a 3-3 homestand and looking to extend their 3 game lead in the CanAm League over the Capitales, the Boulders traveled to Quebec’s Stade Canac to begin a 3 game series against the Quebec Capitales. The Boulders sent Justin Topa to the hill against the Capitales’ Lozaro Blanco.
Jared McDonald led off the game with a double and advanced to third on a throwing error by the Capitales right fielder, Marcus Knecht. Dylan Tice came up to the plate next and singled scoring McDonald to give the Boulders the early 1-0 lead.
The game would remain a 1-0 score in favor of the Boulders until the bottom of the first inning. Philippe Craig-St.-Louis, the Capitales left fielder, led off the inning with a single. He would advance to third on a single by the next batter Jonathan Malo, the Capitales shortstop. Two batters later the Capitales firstbaseman Jordan Lennerton singled, scoring Craig-St.-Louis to tie the game at 1-1. Jonathan Malo would come around to score the second run of the inning for the Capitales on a sacrifice fly by Marcus Knecht to give the Capitales a 2-1 lead after the first inning.
To lead off the bottom of the 2nd the Capitales center fielder Daniel Rockett hit a rocket of a homerun over the left field wall to extend their lead to 3-1.
That score would hold at 3-1 in favor of the Capitales until the bottom of the 5th inning. With 1 out in the inning Jonathan Malo singled. Following a strikeout of Yurisbel Gracial, Justin Topa threw another mistake pitch and gave up his second homerun of the game to Jordan Lennerton to give the Capitales a 5-1 lead.
Following the 5th inning both teams would struggle offensively with the Boulders managing the only baserunners for the remaining 4 innings on two errors by the Capitales and two singles. The Boulders pitching staff would retire the last 9 Capitales batters.
