Ducks Fall In Walk Off at Somerset

(Bridgewater, N.J., June 14, 2017) – The Long Island Ducks fell to the Somerset Patriots 7-6 in a walk off Wednesday night at TD Bank Ballpark in the middle game of a three-game series.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third, when the Patriots (32-20) sent nine batters to the plate and scored three runs against John Brownell. The big blow in the frame was a two-run home run by Somerset catcher Adam Donachie.

The Ducks (26-26) would get on the board against Patriots starter Dave Kubiak in the top of the fifth when Marc Krauss launched a solo home run to right field. The blast was Krauss’ fifth of the season and second in his last two games played.

In the bottom of the fifth, Somerset pulled back ahead by three when Greg Golson walked, stole second base, and scored on an Aharon Eggleston double. Brownell was done after the fifth, allowing four runs on seven hits, walking four and striking out three. He did not factor into the decision.

Long Island broke out the bats and took a 5-4 lead in the top of the seventh against four Somerset pitchers, with the highlight coming on an Alex Burg three-run, opposite-field home run. However, the Patriots answered back with two runs off Eury De La Rosa in the bottom of the frame to claim a 6-5 advantage.

Dan Lyons drove a double off the wall to lead off the top of the ninth against Jon Hunton, and he scored two batters later on an Anthony Vega sacrifice fly to tie the game at six.

With two outs in the bottom of the 10th, Carlos Guzman and Alfredo Rodriguez collected back-to-back singles against Patrick Crider, and pinch hitter Yovan Gonzalez won the game with another base hit to left, scoring Guzman.

Crider (0-3) was tagged with the loss for the Ducks, while Will Oliver (2-0) got the win after a scoreless inning of relief for the Patriots.
