Seth Lugo Looks Strong In Final Rehab Start

Seth Lugo burst out of the gate in his second Major League rehab appearance with the Rumble Ponies. The right-hander retired the first 11 Sea Dogs he faced before Rafael Devers hit an opposite-field home run in the fourth.

The long ball proved to be the only blemish on Lugo’s tab. The 2015 Binghamton Met side-stepped a single in a scoreless fifth and stranded two in the sixth. Lugo closed the complete game with four straight strikeouts, fanning the side in order in the seventh.

Binghamton’s offense provided support for Lugo early with four runs in the first inning against Portland starter Travis Lakins. Tomas Nido threaded a two-run homer inside the right-field foul pole before Gustavo Nunez blooped a two-run single to left. David Thompson capped the Ponies scoring with an RBI double in the third.

Lugo (1-1) struck out eight and allowed six hits over seven innings in the victory. Lakins (0-3) was touched for five runs on ten hits in four innings in the loss.
