(Bridgeport, Conn., June 3, 2017) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 10-1 on Saturday night in the third game of a four-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
Long Island plated single runs in the first and second inning against Bluefish starter Jonathan Albaladejo. A run-scoring groundout from Lew Ford and an RBI single by Delta Cleary Jr. put the Flock ahead 2-0.
Three more runs in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Giovanny Alfonzo and a two-run single by Anthony Vega increased the lead to five. Another trio of runs in the fifth ballooned the advantage to 8-0. A sac fly off the bat of Cleary Jr. and a two-run single by Alfonzo did the damage.
The Ducks rounded out their scoring with two more runs in the sixth. Back-to-back two-out RBI singles by Alex Burg and Marc Krauss highlighted the inning.
Ducks starter John Brownell (4-0) was fantastic to earn his franchise-record 50th win in a Ducks uniform. The right-hander allowed just one run on eight hits and a walk while striking out six. Albaladejo (3-4) suffered the loss, surrendering eight runs on 10 hits and two walks in four and two-thirds innings with three strikeouts. Jim Fuller and Zac Treece each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Flock.
Burg led the Flock with four hits and three runs, adding an RBI as well. Cleary Jr. chipped in with three hits and two RBI, Alfonzo had two hits and three RBI and Vega finished with two hits, two RBI and two runs scored.
The Ducks and Bluefish wrap up their four-game set on Sunday afternoon. Game time is slated for 1:12 p.m. from The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Long Island returns home on Friday, June 9 to begin a three-game set with the Bluefish. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). It’s also a Fowl Pole Friday at the Duck Pond, and if a select Ducks player hits a home run off of one of the foul poles during the game, one lucky fan will win $50,000.
