Brownell’s Quality Start Spoiled In Walk Off

(New Britain, Conn., May 1, 2017) – The Long Island Ducks fell to the New Britain Bees 4-3 Thursday night at New Britain Stadium.

The Ducks (9-12) got on the board first, striking for a run on an Angelo Songco RBI single in the first inning off Bees starter Eric Fornataro. Long Island would add another tally in the top of the third when Songco crushed a double off the wall to score Elmer Reyes and give the Ducks a 2-0 lead.

New Britain (6-14) struck back in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run home run off the bat of Conor Bierfeldt to take a 3-2 lead.

It would stay that way until the top of the ninth when Giovanny Alfonzo scored on a play were the Bees committed two errors on a Dan Lyons ground ball to tie the game at three. However, Bierfeldt launched a solo home run off Patrick Crider in the bottom of the ninth to win the game for the Bees.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Crider (0-2) took the loss for the Ducks, while Joe Beimel (1-2) got the win for the Bees despite blowing the save. Angelo Songco and Alex Burg collected two hits each for the Flock. The Ducks continue their series with the Bees Friday night at 6:35 pm.
