Songco’s Blast Not Enough as Bees Top Ducks

(Central Islip, N.Y., April 29, 2017) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the New Britain Bees 3-2 on Saturday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Long Island took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run home run to right field by Angelo Songco off Bees starter Brian Dupra.

New Britain responded with three runs in the fourth off Ducks starter Tim Melville to jump in front 3-2. RBI singles by Jovan Rosa and Craig Maddox, along with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Conor Bierfeldt, did the damage.

The Ducks threatened to tie the game when they put two runners on in the fifth, a runner at second in the seventh and a runner at first in the ninth. However, they could not pull even.

Dupra (2-0) picked up the win, pitching five innings of two-run ball, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out two. Melville (0-1) took the loss, yielding three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks over five innings while striking out three. Joe Beimel collected his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Cody Puckett totaled three hits to lead the Flock, while Songco added two.
