NATIONAL HARBOR, MD – Major League Baseball will be honoring the late Shannon Forde the beloved New York Mets Media Relations executive who passed away last year after a long battle with breast cancer. MLB and the Mets came together during the annual Winter Meetings to announce they will be honoring Shannon with an online auction.
The proceeds will benefit Shannon’s hometown of Little Ferry, New Jersey They will be renovating a youth baseball and softball field as well as renaming it, “Shannon Forde Field.” in here hometown of Little Ferry, New Jersey.
Chief Operating Officer Fred Wilpon, Mets executives, manager Terry Collins, officials from MLB, along with members of the Forde family were in attendance Monday morning at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center site of the meetings to announce the benefit.
Said Wilpon, “It’s an amazing tribute to an amazing woman that we all miss every day at the office.”
The auction includes dinner with the SNY announcers, Mets intern for a day, social media coordinator for a day, Yankees media member for a day, and an opportunity to meet with manager Joe Girardi at batting practice.
