A wake for former heavyweight boxer Alex Stewart, who died unexpectedly of a blood clot in his lung at his home in Mt Vernon, NY on Nov. 16, will be held on Tues. Nov. 29 at the Pelham Funeral Home, Lincoln Ave., Pelham, NY between 4-8 pm.
Stewart, a native of Jamaica who fought many of his bouts at New York’s Felt Forum, began his boxing career with 24 straight KOs before losing to Evander Holyfield in the first of two epic battles with the former heavyweight champion. Stewart also fought a war with George Foreman and in 1990 was knocked out in the first round by Mike Tyson.
Stewart, who was 52, is survived by his wife, Angella, and daughter Ajay-Tenille.
