Empire Nip Kastles, Rematch Tonight Features Roddick

The New York Empire presented by Citi won their second Myland World TeamTennis presented by GEICO matchup on Monday, upending the five-time defending champion Washington Kastles, 21-19, in our nation’s capital. It was substitute Marcus Willis, playing in his first match of the year for the Empire, who earned the decisive victory, edging Stephane Robert of the Kastles in Men’s Singles, 5-4, to clinch the win for the visitors.

Each Empire player contributed with a win as Neal Skupski and Maria Irogiyen teamed in mixed doubles, Christina McHale trounced Madison Brengle, 5-1, in women’s singles, and Willis won the final event.

The teams play the second half of the home-and-home tonight, with Marquee Player Andy Roddick competing for the Empire for the first time this season. The match begins at 7 p.m.

The Empire have two other home matches this week to conclude the regular season: Thursday vs. Orange County and Friday vs. San Diego, both at 7 p.m. at Forest Hills Stadium at The West Side Tennis Club.
