Harvey To The DL With “Shoulder Discomfort”

On Monday, Terry Collins said that it was back to the drawing board with Matt Harvey.

Apparently the drawing board includes a stint on the disabled list.

The Mets put their mercurial righthander on the shelf today with what is described as “shoulder discomfort” and recalled righthander Seth Lugo to replace him on the roster.

Harvey was struggling in 2016 with a 4-10 record and a 4.86 ERA.

He is scheduled to go to St. Louis to be examined by Dr. Robert Thompson, who performed surgery on Dillion Gee in 2012.

The Mets will probably use either Logan Verrett or Lugo in the rotation until Zack Wheeler is ready to come back from his Tommy John surgery, which right now is slated to be mid-August, because of a number of setbacks.

If neither pitcher can cut it, the Mets may have to look at the trade market for a starter if Wheeler suffers any other setbacks.
