Mac Makes His Pitch

Maybe the New York Empire can help get the Mets going. At least that was the case Tuesday night at CitiField when the newly arrived New York Empire of Mylan World TeamTennis made a pregame stop before the Mets took on the Kansas City Royals.

Empire head coach Patrick McEnroe chatted up media, players and fans before the game about the upcoming season, which starts at The West Side Tennis Club at Forest Hills on July 31. McEnroe threw out the ceremonial first pitch and talked baseball and tennis with young Mets star Michael Conforto all as he helps to build awareness for tennis’ return to the former home of the US Open this summer.

As far as who was the better baseball player in the Mac household, the younger Mac said he was king during their days in Douglaston.

“I had the ability to be the better contact hitter, John would never tell you that,” he joked pregame.
