EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The New York Football Giants will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Super Bowl XXV championship team on Sunday, September 20, in the home opener against the Atlanta Falcons in MetLife Stadium.

The Super Bowl XXV Champions will be honored during a special halftime ceremony on the field, and a number of events and special tributes throughout the game, to celebrate one of the most successful teams in franchise history. Former Giants head coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer BILL PARCELLS, along with Giants legends CARL BANKS, OTTIS ANDERSON, JEFF HOSTETLER and LAWRENCE TAYLOR, will headline a long list of players and coaches from the 1990 team who will be in attendance.

The Giants announced today the unveiling of an interactive website to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Super Bowl XXV Champions. The dedicated website looks back at 25 of the best moments, stories and artifacts from that memorable season. The interactive timeline includes exclusive photos, video and storytelling from key figures on that team. Fans can visit to experience the website.

A few of the memorable stories included on the website:

  • Jersey Pride – Singer-songwriter Jon Bon Jovi secretly attended the Giants-Cowboys game at Texas Stadium on Sept. 16, 1990 dressed as a photographer.
  • BC Gets Coughlin – Tom Coughlin, who served as the Giants wide receiver coach in 1990, was hired as Boston College’s head coach on December 27, three days before the Giants’ regular-season finale and exactly one month prior to Super Bowl XXV.
  • Belichick’s Plan – An inside look at Giants defensive coordinator Bill Belichick’s ingenious defensive game plan from the Super Bowl.

Throughout the season, the Giants will honor the 1990 team with special stadium videos and honorary captains representing the Super Bowl XXV Champions.

Television programming provided by Big Blue Entertainment will have dedicated highlights and exclusive player features on the 1990 team across all programming (Giants Chronicles, Giants First and 10, Giants Access Blue) throughout the season.

In 1990, the Giants won their first 10 games and finished the regular season with a 13-3 record. They routed the Chicago Bears in an NFC Divisional Playoff Game, 31-3. The following week, Matt Bahr’s 42-yard field goal as time expired gave the Giants a 15-13 victory over the two-time defending champion 49ers in San Francisco in the conference championship game. The Giants won their second title in five seasons when they defeated the Buffalo Bills, 20-19, in the Super Bowl. The 1990 Giants featured two current members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, head coach Bill Parcells and linebacker Lawrence Taylor. Quarterback Phil Simms started the first 14 games before he suffered a foot injury and was relieved by Jeff Hostetler. The team also included running back Ottis Anderson, the Super Bowl MVP, plus Carl Banks, Pepper Johnson and Leonard Marshall on defense.
