The Indiana Fever rolled to a dominant 80-63 victory over the New York Liberty on Friday night at Madison Square Garden, dropping the Liberty’s record to 3-3 on the season.
Indiana took this game over early, as they jumped out to a 20-point lead, 32-12, at the end of the first quarter. The Liberty trailed most of the way and entered the fourth down 11, at 66-55. They went an 8-0 run in the fourth to pull within seven, 70-63, with 6:24 to play. They would be held scoreless the rest of the way, as the Fever closed the game with a 10-0 run.
The Fever were led by Maggie Lucas, with 23 points off the bench on 7-for-12 shooting, 5-8 on threes, 2 assists, and 2 rebounds. Marissa Coleman added 16 points on 6-14 from the field, 2-4 on threes, with 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Indiana’s Tamika Catchings, who averages 17 points, was 0-for-10 from the field, missing one from behind the arc, and was held scoreless.
Tanisha Wright led the Liberty with 12 points on 5-for-6 from the field, including 1-1 on threes, with 2 rebounds. Brittany Boyd had a disappointing night, shooting 4-for-11 from the field (1-3 on threes), with 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Sugar Rodgers had 11 points as well on 3-11 shooting, 1-6 on threes, with 3 rebounds and 3 assists off the bench.
