Caldwell College senior forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn English) was chosen the All-Met Division II Player of the Year for women’s basketball, the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association announced today. A three-time All-Met selection, Anderson is Caldwell’s first women’s basketball player to be named the All-Met Player of the Year in the history of the program.
The Coach of the Year was Deirdre Moore, who led LIU Post to a 24-7 record, a first-ever East Coast Conference regular-season crown, the team’s first NCAA Tournament win since 1983, and the program’s first berth in the NCAA East Regional Championship game.
Last month Anderson was named to the Daktronics All-American second team and also received All-American honorable mention from the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. She is Caldwell’s first women’s basketball All-American since the college became a full member of the NCAA Division II before the 2002-03 academic year.
Anderson, who also received Daktronics East Region Player of the Year and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year honors, averaged 18.4 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. She led the CACC in rebounding and free throws made (157) while ranking fourth in the CACC in scoring, fifth in field goal percentage (.503) and eighth in blocks (1.1 bpg). Her 16 double-doubles this season are eighth-best nationally.
Other first-team members include Sade Jackson, Adelphi; KC Jentzen, Dominican; Jessica Kitrys, Adelphi; Madison Rowland, Queens; and Chelsea Williams, LIU Post.
The Second Team is comprised of Alexis Peters, LIU Post; Trina Plummer, Felician; Dina Ragab, NYIT; MacKenzie Rowland, Queens; and Tierra Scott, Bloomfield.
Anderson, Moore and the other all-Met performers will be honored at the 81st NIT/MBWA Haggerty Awards Dinner on Tuesday, Apr. 22 at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, N.Y.
