Sportimes Have Their Time Over Freedoms

Abigail Spears and Robert Kendrick each won a singles and doubles match as the New York Sportimes won four of five events to defeat the Philadelphia Freedoms, 24-15, in World TeamTennis action at Sportime on Randall’s Island on Sunday.

Spears won her singles match, 5-1, over Noppawan Lertcheewakarn, after teaming with Ashley Harkleroad to take the women’s doubles event over Lertcheewakarn and Courtney Nagle, 5-2.

Kendrick defeated Prakash Amritraj, 5-3, and paired with Jesse Witten to best Amritraj and Ramon Delgado, 5-4.

Amritraj and Nagle edged Spears and Kendrick, 5-3, in the mixed doubles competition, for the Freedom’s lone victory.

The win propels the Sportimes (5-1) into a first-place tie in the WTT Eastern Division.  The Sportimes host Springfield on Monday at Sportime on Randall’s Island, while the Freedom (1-4) host Boston on Monday.
