(Central Islip, N.Y., June 8, 2009) – The Somerset Patriots defeated the Long Island Ducks 6-1 on Monday at Citibank Park.
The story in this game was the pitching of Jim Magrane (6-0). The Patriots starter picked up the win firing seven innings, allowing five hits and one run, while striking out one.
First baseman Josh Pressley supplied the power for the Patriots as he crushed a two-run homer in the first. Ducks’ starter B.J. LaMura (2-4) tossed seven innings, allowing six runs and eight hits, with one punch-out.
A four-run fourth inning did the Flock in as designated hitter Matt Hagen smashed a three-run dinger to help propel the Pats.
Estee Harris extended his hitting streak to 10-games and Lew Ford cracked his team-leading 11th double.
The Ducks continue their homestand on Tuesday night with a doubleheader against the Camden Riversharks, with each game slated for seven innings. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 5:35 p.m., with gates opening simultaneously. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a Car Sponge, presented by Sponge Tech.
