Pack Can’t Overcome Two Third Period Goals in Lowell

LOWELL, MA –  Patrick Davis scored two third-period goals to lead the Lowell Devils to a 5-3 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack Sunday at the Paul Tsongas Arena.

The Wolf Pack fell behind 3-0 in the first period and then came all the way back to tie the game, only to see Davis score twice in 47 seconds after the Pack had drawn even.  Matthew Corrente, Pierre-Luc Leblond and Barry Tallackson also scored for Lowell, and Brad Mills had two assists.  The Wolf Pack got goals from P.A. Parenteau, Brodie Dupont and Greg Moore, and Artem Anisimov had a pair of assists.

Corrente gave the Devils a 1-0 lead on a power play at 8:31 of the first, on a one-timer from high in the slot that slid along the ice past Wolf Pack starting goaltender Matt Zaba.  Leblond buried Rod Pelley’s centering pass from behind the net just 23 seconds later for a 2-0 Lowell advantage.  Tallackson made it 3-0 for the Devils at 14:31, as his shot off right wing hit a Wolf Pack stick and got by Zaba.

The Wolf Pack got back in the game in the latter stages of the second period, with a pair of goals 2:16 apart.  Parenteau posted his 22nd of the season at 16:15, beating Lowell goaltender Jeff Frazee with a snapshot from the top of the left circle with Anisimov screening.  Then at 18:31, Anisimov won a faceoff to Dupont, whose fluttering shot fooled Frazee up high.

Moore scored the Wolf Pack’s fourth shorthanded goal in the last five games 10:19 into the third period, finishing a two-on-one with Patrick Rissmiller, but the 3-3 tie lasted only 1:08.  Davis started his two-goal burst with a power-play goal at 11:27, deflecting a shot from the point by South Windsor, CT’s Jon DiSalvatore.  Forty-seven seconds later, at 12:14, Davis put in a rebound of a Matthew Spiller shot, after Mills had won a draw in the Hartford zone.

Frazee made 22 saves in the Devil net to get the win, and Maxime Daigneault, in his first Wolf Pack appearance, took the loss in relief of Zaba, allowing two goals on 21 shots.
