Didn't we just finally get rid of a manager who doesn't know wtf he's he's doing? Now Beltran who has ZERO coaching experience is at the the top of the list? They reference his social skills and dual languages as part of the reasons like that means anything. WTF does this guy know about in game management in regards to hitting, pinch hitting, player swaps, bullpen etc. WTF am I missing here besides the "good story" part.

Either thats one hell of a bluff or this guy is way more confident than he ever came across.
He starts getting rejected by the Cubs, Pads, etc all of whom according to reports basically have their managers already narrowed down to 2-3 guys...its a little bit of a knock on Beltran...this way he's the one being selective. When the reality is he's got a cushy job with the Yankees and I don't think he really cares if he gets the Mets job or not, but its an easy thing for him to sit down and talk about.
I'd change my tone on Beltran a bit if he ends up being a bench coach or something for the Mets, but I think this is mostly a PR move to get his name into the managerial mix for NEXT YEAR with some teams and generate a little buzz around him than really a guy who's dying to prove himself in a new form.

The ONLY reason Beltran is on this list is because he's a Yankee guy now. Had he been an "assistant" to the GM in KC no one would give a **** (in the NY media)...Mets ties or not. There's a 1/2 dozen ex-Mets players who are thought of as buzz worthy manager candidates and none of them are being written about by the NY Media.

Oh they went an hired experience winner (if by some miracle a Buck or Joe get it). Oh just the old fall back lolMets for their stupid choice.

If Alfonso was a manager in the Yankees minor league system the story would be different.

FWIW, I imagine a hurdle in getting Girardi here could be the fact that the Mets already have Chili Davis and Phil Regan in place. A guy with Girardi’s resume is going to want to hire his own people. Would Beltran or one of the lesser known names be okay with having much of his staff picked for him?

I know what makes anybody a hot manager for this team. The Mets are looking for anybody that can answer the phone in the dugout during a game and follow the orders of those all knowing management people upstairs. You know the ones I'm talking about starting with the agent who has no clue about being a GM. Or maybe the ESPN announcer who knows diddly about baseball who is now an advisor to the idiot GM or is she an advisor to the former GM Omar who never met an hispanic player that he didn't want to sign.
Last but not least is good old Jeffie boy. A guy that wouldn't know which end of the shovel to use if he had a ditch digging job, which he probably couldn't get but because of daddy's money he became an expert on how to ruin a baseball team.
So as soon as a yes man can be found there will be a new manager and another year of fan suffering will begin under the worse organization in baseball.Obama in 2008 "We won you lost...get over it":.
