  • How about Buck Showalter for president of Mets baseball operations

Once this season is over Baltimore beat reporters can not get any idea that Orioles will re-hire him so does he wish to retire or continue in baseball at some capacity ( even if it means doing it with a different organization ) ?????

The Mets didn't do well with Joe Torre as manager. But somehow he's in the Hall of Fame as a manager now.

Of course you realize the pitiful, Grant’s Tomb era Mets was Torre’s first managerial gig.

The guy proved that he could do something with the right mix of talent in Atlanta (divison title) and St. Louis (keeping things afloat with mediocrity while bridging the Herzog and LaRussa eras) before what we know happened in Da Bronx.

This was Buck’s fourth (right?) managerial gig, and despite a few postseasons with the Yankees, Diamonbacks and Orioles, he’s pretty known for getting a team to the hump, but not over it (two teams won championships the year following his last).

A better comparasion could be a Terry Collins/Dusty Baker/Lou Piniella level of skipper that is good at getting a team to respectability, but not much further.

I was going to describe Buck on exactly the same way.

You think a guy who wants control like Showalter would work with Jeffie? Please.

Well would Buck be able to work with the existing front office? I really doubt Ricco or Omar are going anywhere even when a new GM comes in. It's going to be someone who can play ball with those guys...and Jeffy
