        Six shutout innings

        ten strikeouts

        a 5-0 lead

up to the defense and bullpen

        I give him a 50/50 shot of getting a W

            Yeah.

He really has to have double digit wins and a winning record.

Personally, I am hoping.de Grom gets the Cy Young with less than 10 wins, just to further humiliate this organizationization into taking some kind of action. It is nothing short of criminal neglect that this guy has a losing record with the lowest ERA in the league.

ERA LEADERS BY LOWEST WINNING PERCENTAGE

Win totals are one way to put deGrom's season into perspective; winning percentage -- deGrom's is .462 -- is another. With the same criteria -- qualified starting pitchers in a full season -- here's a quick list of the 10 league ERA champions with the lowest winning percentage in the modern era.

                  1. Nolan Ryan, Astros, 1987: .333 (8-16, 2.76 ERA)
                  2. Joe Magrane*, Cardinals, 1988: .357 (5-9, 2.18 ERA)
                  3. Rube Waddell*, Pirates, 1900: .381 (8-13, 2.37 ERA)
                  4. Ed Siever, Tigers, 1902: .421 (8-11, 1.91 ERA)
                  5. Kevin Millwood, Indians, 2005: .450 (9-11, 2.86 ERA)
                  6. Dolf Luque*, Reds, 1925: .471 (16-18, 2.63 ERA)
                  7. Ed Walsh*, White Sox, 1910: .474 (18-20, 1.27 ERA)
                  8. Stan Coveleski, Indians, 1923: .481 (13-14, 2.76 ERA)
                  9. Dick Donovan*, Senators, 1961: .500 (10-10, 2.40 ERA)

I'm amazed by how many modern day examples there are of this phenomena.

I was also surprised that there were a good number of examples of this seemingly odd phenomenon in the last 30-35 years.

with the off day the Mets could have had Jake pitch Tuesday against the putrid O's but chose to pitch him against the Yankees Monday who are pitching Severino. Yeah it doesn't really matter but you're potentially costing him the Cy Young by doing this

Or giving him the chance to build his case for winning the Cy Young. It depends on how he pitches. Personally, I'd rather see him go up against the Yankees than the O's.

I'd be VERY surprised if deGrom was able to win even if he makes it to double digits in wins. Scherzer is having a hell of season with better stats that deGrom in most categories other than ERA.. 15-5, 2.19 ERA, .88 WHiP, 227 K's.

I was thinking another 2-1, 3-2 loss like the first time he pitched against the Yankees. Not a big deal because they very well could get shut out against the O's the next night but I'm just really rooting for Jake here
