  • Before any eternal optimists start thinking about 2015......

Know that this team has zero shot of turning it around. Sure, I probably would have said they were done at 52-50 then but here is the difference. Now, like then, we were getting quality pitching. I mean, aside from Wheeler unraveling in the 6th the other night, they put together a stretch of nice outings. Of course it's damn near impossible to be like 1-11 or whatever with those types of starts but this is the Mets.

Anyway, at least in 2015, they were running Mayberry and company out there and we knew that if they brought up Conforto, got Murphy healthy and made some trades for bats, they'd have a shot. Again, the result was way more than we could have ever imagined.

But this is a lineup full of slugs who blow and who we really can't move. Bruce, Frazier and others are going nowhere and Smith is not the answer. In all my years of watching baseball, I cannot remember a multiple week stretch this bad for an offense, not even in the 70s. It may be the worst offensive two weeks of any offense in the history of the game.

    They're done.

They are setting historic MLB records for ineptness. But hey, Plandy says this is his fault and Frazier apologized to deGrom, so all is well.

Revlon couldn't make enough lipstick to put on this pig of a franchise.

They blow. They may string together a bunch of wins again, but it won’t be anything that helps this team get back into the Wild Card hunt.

Their offense scoring lots of runs in Coors is like an Olympic sprinter's record being disqualified because the time was wind-aided. Nonetheless it seems like Nimmo is becoming a gem.

One of Sandy’s greatest failures, IMO, is drafting this guy in the first round and then not having faith in him that he could do this. Even after he dominated spring and and in April, they sent Nimmo back to the bench. This organization can’t even judge its own talent in front of its eyes. If they knew what they had in Nimmo, they might not have signed Bruce and that money could have been better spent elsewhere. (I admit I was for the Bruce signing, but still.)

Bruce may possibly be the worst player in baseball and the numbers back that up. A couple of years ago he had the worst WAR in baseball and voila he's back there again. He is the anti Trout.

                Awful awful awfil signing.

his 30ish HRs/year are welllll more than double negated by EVERY other aspect of his game.

at least Jason Bay played average+ defense, was a decent base runner, and by all accounts was tons of fun off of the field.

Dear lord don’t start that...,,METSSC will whine about trading him while he still has value.

                    ...or...1969?

                    from Wikipedia:

                    "1969 New York Mets season"

                    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1969_New_York_Mets_season

"Trailing the Chicago Cubs for much of the season, the Mets found themselves in third place, 10 games back, on August 14, but they won 14 of their last 17 games during August, and 24 of their 32 games during September and October, to surge past the Cubs, finishing 100–62, eight games ahead of the Cubs. That 18 game differential is one of the largest turnarounds in MLB history."

It's proving to be another of Plandy's many clunkers- it's bad when the team is paying him that kind of money, but better off with him injured....its like the DoD spending millions on a project and then scrapping it before it can ever be used.

Vargas and Bruce both got multi year deals. This is the talent our GM spent millions on to put us over the top. Combine that with a minor league system bereft of any talent

                        great job Plandy
