The focus of the Opening Day festivities is not me sitting at my desk in my office, someone trying to find a parking space at flushing or someone standing online for a pretzel. The focus is on the people on the field, the players dressing in their clean uniforms and standing at attention on the first & third base lines.

And I agree with Mule (provided they don't sit there and play every National Anthem under the sun including ones honoring would be socialist dictatorships for 5 hours) Folks who sit there and and can't stop what they're doing, stand (provided they can do so) and respect the National anthem are *******s.

And that certainly is at least true for a guy who's part of the whole focus of the ceremony and I don't believe it's playing American SuperFan to point that out.
This is why we should have never traded you.

Oh, and while I don't mind exploring the ins and outs of proper behavioral procedure during an anthem, let's not all sit back and make believe we're only talking about an anthem. There was a moment of silence right before the singer entered the field. A moment of silence for those that have served and died for this country, and all the players and coaches had their caps off, respectfully held to their chests, except one.

People want to make this about a song to minimize the insult. It's not about a song and you can't minimize the insult.

      KO,

Usually I get a kick out of you & Paulie and your wise-assery. Hell, I share the trait myself.

      BUT...

I think you have this need to justify your point/hate about Delgado and you're seeing **** that ain't there.

      Or show us your...umm..."footage."

Are you saying I'm so blinded by hatred for a man that I can't tell where his arm is in relation to his chest?

All I'm saying is, you seem to be the only one who's seen it. That's all...

If I take another picture of my television, Paulie is going to have a field day. And I can't let that happen.

So then how do you resolve it?

The only plausible answer is stop being a fan.

None of his coaches, teammates or employers seem to give **** that his hat was on his THIGH, not his chest.

Is wonder boy David Wright not a co-conspirator in this blasphemy? After all he dines almost nightly with Jihad Johnny.

And if it was really just about pointing it out, you would have just pointed it out as opposed to exaggerating the facts for theatrics and essentially saying he rubbed one out during the National Anthem.

I mean honestly it is all very Medfordian in a not so round about way.

I never said I had more respect for America than you by constantly pulling on the Delgado harp strings.

                Can't we all just agree that he's a true patriot if he's .280/35/115 and he's a muslimeic scumbag if he's .245/23/85.

                Deal?

We just can't his patriotism until after the playoffs.

If he was actually standing for the anthem while intentionally trying to hang his cap on his schlong, you don't find that disrespectful?
yeah but if you were holding your cap on your junk for a whole song i think someone else might have noticed

I'll always stand respectfully in any situation like that, always. However, and I know this isn't the popular, prevailing opinion, but for some reason I just don't care about this. Perhaps it's because, even if there is intent behind it and even if he didn't eventually raise the cap up after the camera passed by, it's a very passive act. He's not coming out and saying horrible things and he otherwise seems like a nice guy to have in a clubhouse. If he was spouting off a bunch of inconsiderate crap, then I'd have a problem with him. However, that's not the case, so frankly I don't think any more or less of him and I couldn't care less. Of course anyone else has every right to object to it, there's nothing wrong in doing so.

The guy's a jerk. I'm not looking to resolve it. In fact, I'm waiting for all the material he's going to give me on Jackie Robinson Day.

The man is allowed to disagree.

That's why our troops are over there in the first place, isn't it?

"Disagree"? So, in other words, all the other players and coaches "agree"...?

I plead with you to think about your answer for a minute before you respond. Because you will look silly.

"I'm thoroughly disturbed that this guy is on my team, and by extension I am put in a position to consider ever rooting for him to succeed."

You have a choice, but just like you criticize him and characterize him as being a weasel, you are taking the easy way out.

The hard thing for you to do would be to stand by your principles. Being that you are so offended by his past and present actions and what they stand for, simply complaining about them on an internet chat forum seems fairly pedestrian.
