World Series Odds

Major League Baseball’s 2022 season is well underway, and New Yorkers can place bets on the future World Series champions. For many, the Los Angeles Dodgers will be the team to beat as consistent title contenders. They finally broke through and won the championship a few years ago and fell short to the Atlanta Braves in the NLCS.

Current World Series Odds

Here’s a look at the best odds available for all 32 MLB teams. Months into the season, both the New York Yankees and New York Mets are strong contenders. They have lower odds than most to win the World Series.

The Mets are a great example of how odds can change drastically with just a few moves. Last season, the Mets opened +2000 at Caesars Sportsbook, but after adding Max Scherzer, among other moves, and hiring manager Buck Showalter, they are now as low as +1000 at DraftKings Sportsbook.

The Dodgers are the consensus favorites, and the Yankees aren’t far behind these days. Houston, who has recently been a consistent World Series contender like the Dodgers, is also near the top. The Mets have also jumped within the top five at most sportsbooks.

The defending champion Braves didn’t get a ton of respect before the season and have dropped due to the Mets’ terrific start to the season. A few of the more disappointing teams in terms of great preseason odds include the Chicago White Sox and San Francisco Giants.

Do you think this is the year Aaron Boone and the Yankees are finally going to win it all? Or do you think Showalter will give the Mets the mental toughness it takes to win the World Series for the first time since 1986? Or maybe you have no faith in either team and want to bet on the Astros at +1000 at FanDuel Sportsbook, or the Padres at +1600 at BetMGM?

Regardless of your pick, there are currently five legal mobile sports betting platforms taking wagers for New Yorkers. Prior to Jan. 8, you had to be inside an upstate casino to legally bet on sports in the state. Now, you can bet from anywhere.

The New York State Gaming Commission approved nine platforms for mobile sports betting. Bally Bet is the only one currently not available at this time, but will be at some point in 2022. Here’s a look at the all platforms currently available:

If you’re ready to wager today, it’s best to check each of the available platforms for the best odds on your choice, or choices, for futures bets. None of the 10 teams with the lowest odds has the same odds at all of the platforms currently taking wagers.

How World Series Betting Odds Are Calculated At NY Sportsbooks

Futures odds on next the World Series champion come out immediately after a team records the final out to win that year’s championship. The Braves had barely been crowned the 2021 champs before sportsbooks such as Caesar’s had installed the Dodgers as the 2022 favorites to win the title.

Granted, in 2020, the Dodgers were installed as +400 favorites at Caesars and they failed to reach the World Series. So, if you placed a futures bet on Los Angeles prior to, or during, the 2021 season, it was a losing ticket.

There can be only one winner of World Series futures bets, so if you wagered on the Braves at +1200, you held the winning ticket.

Once the lockout is lifted and teams begin signing the remaining free agents, the odds will start shifting on a regular basis. Signings and trades are two big reasons odds move, but injuries and a team’s current level of performance are also factors.

Atlanta’s odds increased to around +4500 at DraftKings at the All-Star break after star outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. suffered a season-ending knee injury last July. Anyone who saw that as a great opportunity to bet on the Braves was undoubtedly smiling at the end of the World Series.

In addition to futures bets on the World Series champion, you can also wager on which team will win the American League and National League pennants and which team will win division titles. Futures bets are also available on which players will win the MVP Award, Cy Young Award, and the Rookie of the Year Award in both leagues. Bryce Harper won the NL MVP Award in 2021 after opening at +1500 at DraftKings.

American League MVP Robbie Ray was at +6000 in mid-July, so there’s good money to be made for close observers.

Major League Baseball World Series Odds And Betting

Futures bets are the lone wagers that can be placed on the series in advance. Once the teams are known, each game of the World Series can be bet in a number of ways. Taking Game 6 of the 2021 World Series as an example, here were the main available betting options.

Moneyline bets are where you pick the winner, without the benefit of any point spread. The Astros were -120 at BetMGM, while the Braves were getting +115 odds at Caesars. If taking the Astros, you would have bet $120 to win $100 if Houston won the game. When the Braves won, bettors earned $115 for every $100 wagered.

The spread, or runline, saw the Astros at -1.5 with the Braves at +1.5. If you bet on the Astros, they had to win the game by at least two runs for your bet to cash. If you bet on the Braves, you would have won the bet if they would have won the game outright or lost by just one run.

A totals bet would have won if the teams combined to go over the total, which was as low as 7.5 runs and as high as 9.5 runs depending on the sportsbook. The Braves won, 7-0, so the under was the winning bet.

Parlay bets – where you combine team or player Prop bets – into a larger wager via ‘legs’ were also available.

What Is An MLB Futures Bet?

A futures bet is placed on the team you think will win the World Series and is placed anytime from the end of the previous season onward. You can also place futures bets on the league and division champions and which players will win the major postseason awards. Picking the Most Valuable Player, Cy Young Award winner, and Rookie of the Year well in advance is challenging but can be rewarding if you find them at the right odds. Once the teams are determined, there are also futures bets available on the World Series MVP. Longshot Jorge Soler (+3500 at DraftKings) won it in 2021.

What Is A World Series Prop Bet?

World Series Prop bets may not be as exotic as Prop bets on the Super Bowl, but there are plenty of options available. You can bet yes or no on whether a player will homer in a specific game, or in the overall series.

You can place wagers on if the total number of runs will go over or under for the first five innings, and whether a pitcher’s strikeout total will be ‘over’ or ‘under’ a set total. You could also get odds on whether any game in the Series would end via a walk-off.

Strategies For World Series Betting in NY

The best strategy for any betting involves researching the teams and players you’re looking to wager on. Does a pitcher fare better against certain teams or a certain style of hitters? If a pitcher dominates a certain style of hitters, taking the over on their strikeout total is a logical wager. If the starter struggles against those teams, you make take the opponent on the moneyline and base prop and parlay bets on the opposition scoring a lot of runs.

If you’re comfortable with a deep analysis of a given game, you may want to bet one of the teams on the moneyline, while taking the opposing team via an alternate moneyline. If successful, you can win two moneyline bets on the same game. Also, if you find a number of prop bets enticing, packaging them into a parlay bet can also pay off well if every leg is a winner.

Yes. Betting on the World Series is legal if done via legal mobile sports betting apps, or if the wagers are placed at a licensed sportsbook inside of a casino. In New York, there are eight mobile sportsbooks in operation with one more completing statutory and regulatory details. There are also upstate casinos in New York that have retail sportsbooks available.

Where can I bet on the World Series online?

All legal mobile sportsbooks accept bets on the World Series. Major League Baseball odds can be found on all major sportsbooks. In addition, four more sportsbooks will launch online in the near future.

How old do I need to be to bet on the World Series?

You must be at least 21 to legally bet in New York. This holds true whether betting online, or at one of the upstate casinos that hosts a sportsbook. The information bettors supply when attempting to register for an online account allows the platforms to verify age.

Is it safe to place a World Series bet online?

Yes. Legal mobile sports betting platforms undergo a rigorous approval process before being approved to launch in New York. The same holds true in the other states with legal mobile sports betting. Each sportsbook has a lengthy track record of legitimacy, otherwise, it wouldn’t be approved.

Do online sportsbooks offer live betting during the World Series?

Yes. Live betting has grown in popularity as more states legalize mobile sports betting. Platforms have developed largely seamless technology allowing you to bet on in-game situations as they occur. The odds for particular bets can change via the batter, due to a pitching change, or any number of reasons.

What kind of prop bets are there for the World Series?

World Series Prop bets are plentiful. On the game itself, prop bets include whether a team will homer, score first, or go over or under a set total, to name just a few options. When it comes to individual players, you can wager whether they’ll get a hit, or homer, in a particular game, or over the course of the series. You can wager on a pitcher’s strikeout total and whether they’ll earn the win.

Can I bet on events happening off the field?

Unlike the Super Bowl, there’s not a real market for World Series bets that don’t involve the games. There is no coin flip before a World Series game. And while betting on whether the national anthem will be sung over or under a set time is a popular Super Bowl wager, that isn’t the case with the World Series.

Who is the current World Series favorite for 2022?

The Los Angeles Dodgers are the favorite. The Dodgers won the World Series in 2020 and were favored again in 2021. Despite falling short in 2021, the Dodgers are again favored to win it all. Both the New York Yankees and New York Mets are within the top five teams favored to win it all with their terrific starts in 2022.

When does the 2022 World Series begin?

The 2022 World Series will begin later in October. Despite a brief lockout to start the regular season between the league and the players, they are expected to finish it on time.
