It’s a very easy scenario for the New York Jets. Something you don’t need a sports betting intelligence site line US-Bookies to tell you.
If the Jets win this weekend against the Vikings, they will be at least in the debate for a playoff spot.
A 4-3 record and three wins in a row. What a turnaround.
However, this is what everyone was expecting from the Jets this season. Sure, they would be slow out the gate, but as Sam Darnold becomes more and more adept at the quarterback position, the better they will be in scoring points and become more competitive.
Last week, the offense was dominate against the Colts, scoring 42 points. This week is a tougher task, but of you want to make the playoffs you have to beat the good teams.
And the pressure would be off head coach Todd Bowles, who took a beating a few weeks ago after dropping the game in Cleveland and generally is thought to be “on the clock” this season. If the Jets don’t make the playoffs – or at least come close – they would probably look elsewhere.
But that may not be a good thing for the Jets as Darnold needs continuity early in his career. If he is really the franchise quarterback the Jets most desperately need, then he will not need changing systems every few years.
With $90 million in cap space next year, the future certainly looks bright for the Jets, however they need to show something this season. Being inconsistent will not cut it. They need to play smart football, especially at home.
That’s why this game against Minnesota is so vital. A 3-1 home record for the first half of the season is something the Jets can build upon, as the leaves change, and things get colder, it will be harder to move the ball later in the season, and Darnold will have to learn to win in the cold weather.
And the 4-2 Jets will certainly keep the team in the conversation, as the rest of the New York teams have been letdowns. Even the Yankees, who everyone hoped would be playing next week and they went home early from the playoffs.
These Jets are a very likable team. Outside of the Isaiah Crowell incident in Cleveland, these Jets have had few problems and just go out and play.
It’s a team everyone can get behind, but they need to keep it going.
The Jets need a win this week.
