To celebrate the opening of the next 10 New York City Soccer Initiative mini-soccer pitches, New York City FC (NYCFC) along with their partners (the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, the First Lady of New York City Chirlane McCray, the U.S. Soccer Foundation, adidas and Etihad Airways) hosted an unprecedented ‘Soccer Day’ throughout the five boroughs of New York City on Monday.
An official ribbon cutting ceremony was held at a pitch site in the Bronx shared by four local schools: Hostos-Lincoln Academy of Science/P.S. X010/I.S. 584/University Prep Charter High School.
In addition to remarks from Club executives and partners, players and local students read submissions from a City-wide youth poetry contest which was followed by small-sided games for local youth.
